Doctor Silverman

Dr. Jerry Silverman is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and is certified for the practice of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in both Canada and the U.S. He has been in practice in Windsor since 1973 and was the third Oral Maxillofacial Surgeon to open this type of practice in Essex County. He has been on the staff of Hotel Dieu-Grace Hospital and Windsor Regional Hospital since that time.

Dr. Silverman performed implant surgery for the first time in 1968 and was awarded the only U.S. patent on a two piece submergible dental implant. This technique is considered to be the “gold” standard of implant dentistry today. Although he practices most aspects of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, he has focused his practice on the utilization of dental implants to replace missing teeth.

He received his Bachelor of Science Degree from Georgetown University in 1962, his Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) from Howard University in 1967. In 1970, he completed his training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Illinois and also Cook County Hospital, the hospital and ER that has acted as the basis of the extremely popular TV show, “ER”. In 1972, he received his Master of Science Degree from the University of Illinois in treatment of jaw joint problems.

Dr. Silverman received a fellowship to train under the auspices of the President of the International Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons in London, England and worked out of both Westminster Hospital in London and well as the Queen Mary’s Plastic Surgery Hospital in Roehampton.

He completed two years of military service in the U.S. Air Force at Andrews Air Force Base in Washington, D.C. where he had the opportunity to treat the members of the White House and the U.S. Congress. He also had the opportunity to travel extensively literally around the world as a military medical/dental corp officer. Following this assignment, he started his private practice of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in Windsor.
